MY PROGRESS + SOMETHING THAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT NEEDS TO READ
Please, PLEASE read and reblog.
I know I am only 14, but I am reasonably intelligent, I have had experience, and I am mature about what I am doing. So please take the time to read this.
Stats:
Height:5’6 (167.5cm)
SW: 132-134lbs (60-61kg)
CW: 121lbs (55kg)
GW: 116lbs (52.6kg)
Hi everyone. This is not completely a success story…  But it is something that is very, very valuable for you to read, especially if you are new to weight loss and are on a low calorie diet, or eating anything under about 1300 calories per day.
The first photo on the top left is me from NYE of 2011-2012. This is the photo that made me notice how tubby I was getting (especially in the arms and face, as you can see in this photo) and so I decided to make a new years resolution to lose weight.
The bottom left photo is from about 2-3 weeks after that, when I was just starting to lose.
The top right photo is from late march this year. I had hit 121lbs then, (and I have plateaued at that since :/) and you can really see the difference in my face. I think my bone structure had matured a little too- in the first photo I was still 13. Now I’m 14 and a bit… so my face is still changing. My height, however, is not, and has not for 2 years. :(
The bottom right photo is from early May. I had not lost weight, but I was starting to look more toned.
Here’s the part you MUST read.
I plateaued because I thought I was superhuman and could actually lose 2lbs+ per week, and started off eating at 1200 calories per day- which is about 200 calories BELOW my BMR. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the minimal amount of calories you need to consume each day to keep your body running properly without falling into starvation mode (Starvation mode is when your body thinks you are at risk of starving to death so it clings on to every bit of fat possible, ie. weight loss plateau). My BMR is about 1418, and I was eating 1200, AND burning about 400 calories per day. So I was netting around 800-1000 every day.
I dropped the first couple of pounds really quickly… then just stopped. I got more and more frustrated, and began trying to lower my calorie intake even MORE, because I thought you could net at anything you wanted as long as you were eating the minimal 1200 calories per day. But you can NOT. About 6-7 weeks ago, I discovered all this information about how it is vital to eat at least your BMR/Basal Metabolic Rate or you can do serious damage to your metabolism- which stops you from losing weight.
So I slowly began upping my calories to 1750 per day, and I have eaten at that for the last month and a bit… but still, I have seen no changes. So now, I have decided, that because I abused my body by eating so little calories for over 3 months I have to do a metabolism reset. This means I have to eat at maintenance level (enough calories per day to keep me at my current weight, not losing or gaining) for at LEAST 6 weeks, preferably 8, maybe even more. Once my body has recovered, in about 2 months time, I will start lowering my calorie intake again, to about 1800 per day, so I can maintain a steady loss of 1lb per week. If this all works out, I should be at my goal weight by the beginning of October.
Now, you see, if I had done a little research, and actually payed attention to all the advice saying you should not try and lose more than 1lb per week, I would have been able to maintain a steady loss without plateauing, and I would have reached my goal weight within a month or two, instead of the long, agonising 5 it has taken me to only make it halfway.
So all you people out there starving yourselves at -1200 calories, trying to lose 2lbs+ per week, IT DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT. I guarantee, YOU WILL HIT A PLATEAU AND JUST STOP LOSING BEFORE YOU HIT YOUR GOAL. Your body needs food to keep it running properly, and without the proper amount of nutrients and energy it will just decide to stop burning fat, as it thinks it is in starvation mode. Trust me, find out how many calories you need to eat per day to lose weight healthily here: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/
And then just stick with it. It’s the old tale of slow and steady wins the race. Please. LISTEN TO ME. Starving yourself to lose weight is DANGEROUS. You WILL regret it later, JUST LIKE I DO.
So no, I do not yet have an ‘after’ pic, and I won’t for at least 3 months. I will post it up when I take one though.

All the best, and thanks for reading if you did.
